“Thank you for everything,” the motorcycle stunt rider said to me on the last Sunday of the Mountain State Fair. “I got my hair cut at the Break Tent, then I got my dental work done, and you guys have fed us every day. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” I replied, then explained to him that the Mountain State Fair Ministry was possible because we had over 30 churches coming together from seven Baptist associations in Western North Carolina to share God’s love. “We’ve never seen anything like this before,” he said. “Again, thank you.”

This gentleman’s sentiments echoed many others throughout the week.

As you pause today to pray for Associational Missions, I ask that you pray for the continued influence of September’s fair ministry on those carnival workers, their employers, and the fair attendees with whom our volunteers shared Christ. Pray for the Holy Spirit to yet speak through the Bibles, tracts, and John 3:16 bracelets they took back to their RVs, homes, and homelands. (I saw one young man from Guatemala wearing five of these bracelets.) Pray for the children who received “Jesus Loves You” teddy bears at the 3:16 booth, and for the children and adults who accepted Jesus into their hearts. Pray for healthy churches to disciple them.

In the book, The Baptist Association, contributor Glenn Davis writes that “association was biblical before it was Baptist” reflecting “God’s plan that His churches work together for the expansion of His kingdom.”

The Apostle Paul inspired associational style giving, receiving gifts from the church at Philippi in particular, then requesting regular offerings to be received throughout the churches of Asia Minor for the Jerusalem church. “At the present time,” he wrote, “your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need” (2 Corinthians 8:14a). What a wonderful thing to witness this New Testament model as WNC Baptist churches came together last month for fair ministry.
